Since Summit Montessori School’s founding in 1996, the dream of establishing and sustaining a Montessori program of the highest caliber to serve the Metrowest community has been realized in the strong and vibrant educational community we love and cherish today.
Through a capital campaign, we are expanding the Beginners and Children House programs, improving consistency of class sizes for Lower and Upper Elementary, and creating a new community gathering space. These improvements will enhance the usability of the physical campus while maintaining the school’s small-by-design feel.

Montessori educational philosophy is based on a deep respect for children, their abilities, and their innate desire to learn and grow. Classrooms and lessons are designed with all aspects of a child’s development in mind. Academic, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual learning and development are all incorporated in the curriculum as they are both essential and interrelated.
The 2023-2024 school year was the first year Summit Montessori School had a Naturalist on campus! Our students explored the plant cycle, food waste, native species, pollinators, and more. They take care of our raised garden beds and plant indoors in the winter. Our school implemented a campus-wide composting program and the Upper Elementary students take on the responsibility of collecting the food scraps from across the school.
Outdoor exploration begins in our toddler classrooms. Routine activities for Beginners include daily exposure to the natural world through playground time and nature walks, observation of wild birds (bird feeder), plant care, and handling natural objects (object basket).
Our students in Upper Elementary participate in Nature’s Classroom. This is a residential outdoor environmental education program where students and teachers spend three days living and working together.
